Rita Miller

Owner/ Direct Physical Therapy Boise

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

After 16 years working in various outpatient settings, Rita decided that the “high volume” PT setting did not offer patients what they needed. They came in to have a problem SOLVED and to be listened to. But instead, their treatments were rushed, handed over from therapist to therapist, techs/assistants/aides were assigned to their care, and ultimately they became just another “billable unit.” Direct PT Boise was born out of the desire to bring back the “old” way of treating patients; one-on-one, hands on, and not rushed. This way, patients get better faster in fewer visits, decreasing their overall healthcare costs.
Less than one year after starting Direct PT Boise, Rita’s 12 year-old daughter was diagnosed with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS.) Having been diagnosed with scoliosis herself at the age of 14, she immediately searched for a local Schroth certified therapist that could help her daughter before the scoliosis progressed further. To her dismay, there were none in the state of Idaho. She decided to get trained in the method herself, and in February 2019, she earned her BSPTS C1 Certification in Scoliosis Specific Exercises from The Barcelona-Schroth Institute. She now is able to offer effective, 3D Postural Corrective Exercises for Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis, Scheuermann’s Kyphosis, Flat-Back Syndrome, and Non-Painful Spinal Deformities in adults using the Schroth Method right here in Idaho. In 1 years, she will go on to earn her C2 Certification, which will then include treatment for painful, post-surgical, post-fusions in children and adults.

In her spare time she enjoys biking, yoga, hiking, cooking, and discovering everything else that the beautiful state of Idaho has to offer with her husband and two daughters.

She studied at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with her Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy (MPT) in 2002. She is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a member of the National Strength & Conditioning Association. She has been practicing for 15+ years in various outpatient settings in Connecticut, New Jersey, and Kansas. She is a lifelong learner and has continued her education in some of the most highly regarded and well-researched treatment methods, including the McKenzie method which is a biopsychosocial system of musculoskeletal care emphasizing patient empowerment and self-treatment. Rita is also a member of the American Physical Therapy Association.
